Chris Wilder songs as Leeds United beat Sheffield United had producer scrambling against volume

Leeds United fans signing at Chris Wilder in the win over Sheffield United saw a producer attempt to turn the noise down on a radio broadcast, according to Joe Donnohue.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reported via X on 18 October during the second half of the impressive 2-0 Whites victory at Elland Road, as the home fans turned their attentions on the visiting manager.

Pascal Struijk broke the deadlock in the 69th minute as the Leeds dominance was starting to look like it would not pay off, sparking a huge reaction from the crowd in the aftermath.

Donnohue wrote: “Leeds fans are singing about Chris Wilder right now. The radio producer sat in front of me has turned down the crowd volume dial on his little broadcast box thingy.

“More have joined in. I don’t think it’s going to make a difference.”

Pascal Struijk and Mateo Joseph goals for Leeds United seal win

There were very few negatives on the night from an excellent victory over a rival, with Daniel Farke’s side in the ascendancy for virtually the whole game.

Even the relatively ineffective Joel Piroe managed to cap off his performance with an excellent assist for Mateo Joseph’s late second in a game which went some way to erasing the disappointment of two points dropped at Sunderland with Illan Meslier’s error on 4 October.

In fairness to Wilder he was magnanimous in defeat and didn’t react to his treatment from the home support, admitting afterwards that his side had lost to the better team.

The Blades boss had been vocal about the Whites towards the end of the transfer window, in the wake of the bizarre episode that saw Leeds briefly try to sign Gustavo Hamer.

The circumstances therefore looked to be set up for the star midfielder to have a say, but he had a quiet night as Ao Tanaka impressed alongside Joe Rothwell in Farke’s makeshift midfield.

It had been an uncertain start to the season in some regards but the Whites are showing signs of rounding into the sort of form they will need to secure promotion back to the Premier League at the second attempt.

Were it not for an error from the keeper so strange it might never truly be explained Leeds would have now outplayed and beaten the sides who were top and second going into each game in consecutive fixtures, so things are certainly looking up at Elland Road.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites were devastated to lose out on a major-impact signing they thought they had in the bag.
