Chris Wilder reveals Daniel Farke points deduction talk at Leeds United

Leeds United will find out who else will be joining them in the Premier League as Sheffield United take on Sunderland on Saturday.

The Championship play-off final is set to take place at Wembley to decide who will be the final promoted side, with the game worth over £200million.

The Elland Road faithful will be watching closely, with the successful side likely thrusted into an immediate relegation battle next season.

Sheffield United are likely the favourites after earning 92 points this season to miss out, with Leeds and Daniel Farke appreciating the battle all the way.

Farke reacts to points deduction news

Farke’s side eventually won the battle for automatic promotion and the title after an intense battle with the Blades and Burnley.

Sheffield United were in the top two for the majority of the campaign. However, a late collapse in form saw them completely fall off.

Yet, despite the two clubs having a 10-point gap by the season’s end, Farke has admitted to Chris Wilder that the Blades’ two-point deduction made all the difference.

Speaking to The Telegraph (24 May), Wilder said: “I spoke to Daniel Farke, and he said that really the two points would have made a difference to Leeds United. Especially the way they are as an emotional football club. I do believe it has been overlooked. 92 points is an outstanding season.”

Leeds United deservedly won the Championship title

A two-point deduction or not, Leeds deserved to win the Championship title.

The Yorkshire club were easily the best team in the division, and it was only a run of a few draws towards the end that stopped Farke’s side from completely running away with the league.

Leeds ended up having a substantial points gap on Sheffield United

If Sheffield United hadn’t had a points deduction, it could have put a bit more pressure on Leeds, but in the long term, it wouldn’t have made much difference.

Leeds also finished on 90 points to miss out in their first season back, but they bounced back perfectly, and Wilder will likely use that as motivation if he crashes and burns at Wembley.

While the Blades are no doubt unlucky not to go up automatically with 92 points earned, it is a situation of their own making.
