Chris Wilder makes ‘outstanding’ Leeds admission ahead of Sheffield United clash
Leeds United travel to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United on Monday in what has the potential to be a title-deciding encounter.
Off the back of a massive victory against Sunderland, Leeds return to Championship action with yet another crucial encounter in the promotion race.
Sheffield United play host to the Whites on Monday night, knowing that a win would see them leapfrog Leeds and climb back to the summit of the Championship.
Chris Wilder has found it difficult to keep Leeds out of his mouth this season, making a fresh claim ahead of the game aimed at one particular player.
Championship | W | L | D | GF | GA |
Leeds United (72 points) | 21 | 9 | 3 | 68 | 20 |
Sheffield United (70 points) | 22 | 6 | 5 | 47 | 23 |
Jayden Bogle lauded by Chris Wilder
Having spent time together at Sheffield United, Wilder will be fully aware of the quality possessed by Bogle ahead of their reunion at Bramall Lane.
Bogle has been a key figure at Leeds this season and shared a similar level of importance to the Blades when wearing their red and white stripes in the past as alluded to by Wilder.
In quotes reported by The Star (20 February), Wilder said: “He was outstanding, and he’s a great kid. He had an opportunity to go to a top club. I don’t think we should have sold him, if I’m being perfectly honest. But that decision was not my decision. I want to build and keep our best players and build around them.
“Jayden was one of our best players last season, without a doubt. And I’d have liked to have built around him. But it didn’t happen, for one reason or the other, and he’s gone on and moved on and had an outstanding season.
“I’ll shake his hand before, I’ll shake his hand after but in between, he’s an opposition player. And it’s game on.”
Bogle will be in line to play yet another crucial role for Leeds as they aim to extend their advantage at the top of the Championship to five points heading into the final 12 games of the campaign.

Leeds can all but secure promotion with victory v Sheff United
As it stands, Leeds look almost nailed on to achieve promotion but as always with the Championship, there will be many more twists and turns along the way.
Daniel Farke‘s side sit seven points clear of third-placed Burnley and 10 above recently defeated Sunderland who will be hoping that Leeds are finished inflicting damage.
This is the period that can make or break your season and while a defeat wouldn’t be the end of the world for Leeds, it would cause a slight bit of nervousness for the remainder of the campaign, knowing that they would be playing catchup to the Blades.
Of course, Wilder’s side still have Burnley to face and with one of the two set to drop points, Leeds can take advantage of that but only if they win the remainder of their games.
