Chris Wilder inspired by Leeds United response to ‘very negative’ Elland Road situation
Chris Wilder is looking to take inspiration from the way Leeds United have responded over the past few months to their relegation last season.
Speaking to the Sheffield Star on Monday (18 March), the Blades boss said the narrative would have been “very negative” at Elland Road, but he highlighted the Whites’ victory over Leicester City on 23 February – when the atmosphere was “incredible” – as an example of how they’ve turned things around.
He added that the stadium was “absolutely rocking” during that game as he insisted his club will get things back to where they want it to be at Bramall Lane after they’ve had a difficult campaign on their return to the Premier League.
“I look at Leeds United, who got relegated last year and a lot of the narrative would be very, very negative,” said Wilder.
“I think you saw that game when they played against Leicester and what that looked like – and it was incredible. I’m not one to talk about rivals, especially in my own county, favourably.
“But you’ve got to say the atmosphere that night at Elland Road against Leicester was absolutely rocking and bouncing. So we will get it back to where we want it to be here at Bramall Lane.”
Leeds United fans key to success at Elland Road
There is no doubt that the Leeds fans have had a massive impact in helping the club perform so well throughout this season at Elland Road.
They are known for getting behind their team when things aren’t going well and that’s exactly what happened when they turned things around against Leicester after going behind in the first half.
That result has led to a poor run from the Foxes over the past few weeks, with the Whites leapfrogging them into top spot in the Championship following their 2-0 victory over Millwall on Sunday (17 March).

It’s no easy feat to turn such a negative situation into a positive, but that is what will likely be needed for Sheffield United as they look almost certain to be relegated this season.
But Daniel Farke will be hoping he doesn’t have to make the trip to South Yorkshire to face the Blades in the next campaign as he’ll be looking for his side to take their place in the top flight.
