Chris Sutton slams ‘chaotic’ Leeds United after defeat v West Ham, questions Sam Allardyce decision

Chris Sutton has launched a scathing review of Leeds United after their gut-wrenching 3-1 defeat against West Ham on Sunday (21 May).

Sam Allardyce’s side left themselves as favourites to be relegated from the Premier League with one game of the season left – sitting two points off Everton ahead of their showdown against Spurs at Elland Road (28 May).

Speaking live on 606 Football Phone In, Sutton labelled the club as “chaotic” and questioned the decision to appoint Allardyce as manager.

“Well should they have brought Big Sam in earlier?” he said. [21 May, 1:40]

“Should they have brought Big Sam in at all? It has just been a mess.

“The whole season has been so chaotic.”

Shocking

Leeds United are tumbling towards Premier League relegation, and you can’t help but feel it is deserved after a string of shambolic decisions over the last two years.

There are so many issues within the club that need addressing right now, from Andrea Radrizzani’s ownership to the long-term managerial vacancy and the futures of a number of Leeds United first-team players.

The 3-1 defeat to West Ham felt like a culmination of all of these issues, as Big Sam failed to inspire his Leeds players to any degree once Declan Rice brought proceedings level before half-time.

The lack of quality on the pitch was possibly the most alarming issue, especially considering the vast amounts of cash that has been injected into recent transfer windows.

Although the club still stands an outside chance of remaining in the Premier League next weekend, the reactions from both Allardyce and the players after the full-time whistle suggested otherwise.

Sutton is bang on the money in his assessment of the Whites this year, they have been an utter mess.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay claims that an international player at Elland Road has no place at the club next season and a summer transfer is on the cards.
