Chris Sutton drops ‘doomed’ Leeds United verdict after Premier League defeat v Bournemouth

Chris Sutton has suggested Leeds United look “doomed” after Javi Gracia’s side were beaten 4-1 by Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Dominic Solanke, Antonie Semenyo and a Jefferson Lerma brace saw Gary O’Neil’s side to a comfortable win.

Leeds are still outside the relegation zone but have played a game more than Everton and Leicester City, who currently occupy two of the bottom three spaces. Sutton took to Twitter (30 April) after the game to voice his concern for Gracia’s side.

“Have Rangers closed the gap on Celtic? Leeds and Southampton look doomed… are they going down fighting,” said Sutton.

Not wrong

It’s fair to say Sutton isn’t wrong in his assessment of Leeds’ battle to avoid the drop. It’s hard to see where they go from here. They’re conceding goals for fun, struggling to get anything going in an attacking sense and crumble when they go behind.

Somehow, they are still out of the bottom three, so it hasn’t reached a point of no return, just yet. They still have opportunities to put things right, but how Gracia does that is up for debate. He’s tried a number of different personnel, he’s adopted a couple of different systems, however, the same results keep materialising.

There’s an acceptance that Leeds have problems running through the club. Andrea Radrizzani’s backing of Jesse Marsch, the reluctance to sack the American, the lack of planning after his departure and the number of failed signings have all had an impact.

Regardless of the outcome of this season, change is desperately needed come the end of the campaign.
