Chris Sutton destroys Leeds United attacker Rodrigo
Chris Sutton has destroyed Leeds United attacker Rodrigo when examining record signings in the Premier League.
The Spaniard arrived from Valencia after the Whites returned to the Premier League last season, but failed to set the world alight.
Sutton insisted that the signing has been a miss rather than a hit and that Rodrigo has shown “nowhere near” enough.
Writing in his latest column for the Daily Mail, Sutton delved into every club’s record signings in the Premier League.
“There have been flashes of his ability but nowhere near enough to say he’s been the super signing that Leeds hoped they were splashing out on,” he wrote.
Not good enough?
It is hard to judge Rodrigo given that he has never really had an extended spell in the side due to COVID-19, injuries and the ability to nail down one spot under Marcelo Bielsa.
Arriving as a striker, he was forced to drop back into the number 10 role and ply his trade there, something that took months to get used to.
It is obvious that the skill and class are there, just look at his double against Burnley last season, the problem is the consistency.
With injury currently keeping him out of action, Rodrigo can’t even go out and prove the likes of Sutton wrong, although a big second half of the season has to be expected.
Marcelo Bielsa always expects more, so hopefully, that is exactly what he is going to get from the club-record signing between now and May.
