Chris Sutton clashes with Leeds United fan live on air over Daniel Farke verdict

Chris Sutton has told Leeds United to give Daniel Farke time at Elland Road following the Whites’ win over Cardiff City.

Farke’s Whites picked up a third win of the Championship season as they beat the Bluebirds 2-0 in South Wales on Saturday (21 September) thanks to goals from Largie Ramazani and Joel Piroe.

Despite the result and positive performance, one fan was quick to slam Farke’s tactical style for being too negative, much to the frustration of BBC Sport pundit Sutton who hit back at the supporter.

Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live’s 606 (21 September, 58:30) the fan said: “Some of the football we’re playing, it’s not the lightning pace or anything like that.

“We’ve got a free kick on the halfway line for instance, we’re playing it back into our own half after playing 14 passes and it ends up back at [Illan] Meslier.

“Why are we not trying to go forward? We don’t seem to be breaking through the lines much, we don’t have that tenacity or that spur or potency in front of goal either.”

Sutton immediately hit back saying: “Give Daniel Farke time. Come on.”

Will Leeds United sack Daniel Farke at Elland Road?

While it hasn’t been the perfect start to the season for Leeds United, it seems ridiculous that supporters are still this quick to criticise Farke after a game in which his side were in complete control.

Yes, the Whites should have put Cardiff to the sword and really should have won Saturday afternoon’s game by three or four goals, but the most important thing was that they picked up all three points and they did exactly that.

After just six games of the league season, Leeds are in the playoff places and only five points adrift of table toppers West Brom. It isn’t perfect, but with 40 games left of the campaign, there is still plenty to play for.

Farke knows what it takes to get out of this division and in time he will do the same with the Whites.

It was never going to be easy for him to hit the ground running having lost so many key players last term, but things appear to be heading in the right direction.
