Chris Sutton amazed by what Patrick Bamford did in 3-0 Leeds United win v Peterborough
Chris Sutton was stunned by the goal Patrick Bamford scored in the 3-0 Leeds United win against Peterborough in the FA Cup at London Road on 7 January.
The former Celtic striker described the goal as one of the greatest he’s ever seen, comparing it with Manchester United winger Alejandro Garncho’s overhead kick against Everton earlier in the season.
Sutton claimed he could not work out which goal was better after Bamford brought the ball down off his chest before striking a volley beyond the Peterborough goalkeeper from 25 yards.

Sutton was amazed live on BBC 606 as he gushed: “That goal today, have you seen it? I can’t work out – was Garnacho’s goal better than that? Is it a draw? I mean, that was so, so special. You’ve got to see it.
“I think that’s right up there with one of the greatest goals I’ve ever seen, it was that good.”
High praise from a top striker
Sutton describing the goal as one of the greatest he’s ever seen is high praise from a former striker, and Bamford should be taking everything on board to boost his confidence and belief in his own ability.
The forward has been a polarising figure lately, not just at Elland Road but in football as a whole. Despite one good Premier League season, he has failed to live up to the hype surrounding him, but this goal has shown just what he can do when he’s at it.
It was his second goal in consecutive games under Daniel Farke, in a display of how his confidence has been hugely boosted by the strike against Birmingham on 1 January, and from here he will be hoping to push on.

If he can carry on this vein of form, he may finally have cemented himself in Farke’s side after playing a fringe role coming from the bench in the majority of games this season, and he will need to remain focused and continue to step up if he wants to keep his place.
