Chris Sutton accused of dodging awkward Leeds and Rangers question in live BBC chat
Leeds United were reminded of the brutal nature of the Premier League over the weekend during their 1-0 defeat to Fulham.
Despite having spells where they were on top during the game, Leeds’ attacking woes persisted, with Ally McCoist amongst those concerned with Leeds’ lack of goals.
United were resolute at the back until Gabriel Gudmundsson netted an unfortunate own goal in stoppage time, with Alan Shearer later sharing his sympathy for Gudmundsson.
Chris Sutton was asked to comment on Leeds as part of his BBC radio show, and may have riled the Elland Road faithful even further.

Chris Sutton sits on fence when asked about Leeds and Rangers
Due to the 49ers‘ involvement in both clubs, Leeds and Rangers have been used to sharing headlines over recent months.
Whilst Leeds’ lack of transfer activity at times was criticised over the summer, the exact opposite can be said for Rangers, who splashed the cash freely, bringing in 14 summer signings.
- Despite the significant investment made into Rangers over the summer, they have struggled
- Russell Martin’s side sit 10th in the league and are winless from their first five matches
- With Leeds also losing three of their last four, it could become a season to forget for the 49ers.
Both clubs have struggled at the start of the new campaign, and on BBC 606 on Sunday evening, Savage asked Sutton if Rangers “are on a different level” to Leeds.
The former Celtic striker then replied: “Do not underestimate the size of Rangers and Celtic. You know that.
“Let’s not go down the financial route. I don’t know if you recognise, but Leeds play in the English Premier League. They play in a different country.”
Savage was evidently not satisfied with Sutton’s response, saying: “So you’re not going to answer the question again?”
Despite not giving a black and white answer, Leeds fans will be less than impressed with Sutton alluding to the fact that the Old Firm clubs are currently bigger than the Whites.

Leeds to be concerned if Rangers becomes the 49ers’ priority
Whilst debates will rage on whether Leeds are a bigger club than the likes of Rangers, the 49ers can effectively settle this debate.
Whichever club becomes their priority over time will speak volumes as to who they believe is the bigger club.
The riches of the Premier League are well-documented, but Rangers have a far easier pathway to European football than the Whites.
If Leeds are ultimately relegated to the Championship and Rangers turn things around in their domestic form, United supporters’ frustrations could grow even further if their ownership begins to shift more of their attention north of the border.
However, given the amount of money potentially on the table in English football, it would be within the 49ers’ best interests to fully reawaken its biggest sleeping giant.
