Chris Foy reacts to Sam Greenwood controversy away from Leeds United
Chris Foy admitted it was an excellent decision to hand Leeds United loanee Sam Greenwood a red card in Preston’s draw against Blackburn on 22 September.
The loanee was given his marching orders for a slide tackle on former Elland Road loanee Lewis Baker and had few complaints in the 0-0 stalemate.
Greenwood is currently on loan at Deepdale and has played nine games across all competitions so far while managing to bag two goals.
Foy, a former Premier League referee responded via X on 22 September to back up the decision.
“Excellent decision. Red Card,” he wrote.
Sam Greenwood controversy at Preston
The former Arsenal sensation has always had this in his game and has never been afraid to get stuck into these types of challenges.
While it can be a positive, it can see him get into trouble frequently, although you are unlikely to find a coach who would take that out of his game.
After a loan spell at Middlesbrough last season, this second temporary exit is likely to spell the end of his time at Elland Road permanently next summer, with an option to buy included this time [Lancashire Post].
Leeds are still going along nicely without him, cruising to a 2-0 victory over Cardiff on 21 September as Preston continue to struggle in the Championship.
While there has been some recent pressure on Daniel Farke [Ben Jacobs, 20 September] to get some results, things are starting to come together with wins and frequent clean sheets.
Of course, there’s still plenty of time for things to change but if their current run of form keeps up, the club could find themselves within the top two in no time, with Greenwood a distant memory.
In other Leeds United news, Joe Gelhardt has seemingly been axed from Daniel Farke’s squad.
