Chris Armas set to join Leeds United backroom staff after Mark Jackson departure

Chris Armas is set to join Jesse Marsch’s backroom staff at Leeds United and has arrived in England ahead of the announcement, according to the Daily Mail.

The Whites lost coach Mark Jackson to MK Dons earlier this season and have been in the market for a replacement ever since, as the club edge precariously close to the Premier League relegation zone on the pitch.

Armas, 50, worked as an assistant coach to Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick last season and also has previous experience taking charge of New York Red Bulls and Toronto in the MLS.

The Daily Mail reported that terms had been agreed between the two parties, but the deal was yet to be officially confirmed due to his visa application.

The report said: “Sportsmail understands Armas is joining the Elland Road club to work with fellow American Marsch.

“The deal for Armas has been agreed and the coach has arrived in England ready to work pending visa approval.”

Great news

After the departure of Jackson to MK Dons, it was only going to be a matter of time before Marsch got his replacement in, and Armas would be a great addition to the coaching set-up at Elland Road.

Working without an assistant coach is like having one arm tied behind your back, so the introduction of Armas, in whatever role, will be greatly appreciated and should hopefully see a return to form on the pitch.

Armas has a wealth of experience under his belt, and prior work in the Premier League should mean he recognises the competitive nature of the league. His arrival could be perfect timing for Leeds as Marsch’s side currently find themselves just two points above the relegation zone at the season’s mid-way point.

With crucial signings being made on the pitch this January through Austrian international Max Wober and striker Georginio Rutter, it seems as though the club could be in line to make another shrewd acquisition.
