Chelsea team news v Leeds United: Blues missing three key players
Chelsea will travel to Elland Road to face Leeds United on Sunday (21 August) and the Blues are set to be without three key players for that game.
Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that midfield maestro N’Golo Kante is absent, while Mateo Kovacic and Armando Broja are also missing.
Christian Pulisic is another player who has been facing problems with injuries. He has trained but remains doubtful for this game.
“Quite serious, we’re talking about weeks which is not good news. We’re disappointed and sad because N’Golo was super important and super fit and he will be out for several weeks,” said Tuchel, as quoted by Football London.
“Armando is out for some days but cannot come with us to Leeds and Mateo Kovacic as well is still out with knee problems. Christian Pulisic had problems but trained today [Friday] and let’s see.”
Leeds have made a good start to the new campaign and they will be in full confidence for this game.
The Blues played out a 2-2 draw at home to Tottenham Hotspur in their last game in a fiercely contested match. The game saw Thomas Tuchel being sent off after the final whistle following an altercation with Antonio Conte.
The Chelsea boss will be banned from the touchline at Elland Road, but the loss of Kante has come as a blessing for Leeds.
Of course, Leeds can focus on their own game plan, and they will feel better to see Kante missing the game. He will a big miss for Tuchel’s side.
The Frenchman is an engine in midfield and he is arguably one of the world’s best defensive midfielders. Kovacic has grown into an important player for the Blues as well.
Broja has been targeted by a host of clubs this summer, but Chelsea have refused to let him go, which shows Tuchel has immense faith in the young talent.
