Chelsea set to step up talks with Leeds United director of football Victor Orta
Chelsea are reportedly set to step up talks with Leeds United director of football Victor Orta this week as Todd Boehly looks to overhaul the structure.
According to the Mirror on Thursday, 29 September, Orta is among four names on the club’s wishlist as they aim to make a decision sooner rather than later.
Apart from the Leeds man, former Leicester and Celtic talent scout Lee Congerton who is now with Atalanta is also on it along with the well-respected Monchi at Sevilla plus Rui Pedro Braz at Benfica.
On his way out?
Orta may find it too hard to turn down Chelsea’s approaches and the fact that they’re sitting down to talk to him means Leeds are unlikely to come in his way.
He has worked very well under Marcelo Bielsa and this summer under Jesse Marsch and has helped both of them build squads that cater to their identities.
While many fans will be split about whether or not he should leave, an exit opens the door for the Whites to look at other candidates.
It does happen that a single person’s ideas get stale, as it did with Bielsa, and a change may give the club’s recruitment a different outlook.
Hopefully, we get clarity on this situation sooner and in case he’s rejected for better candidates, he must not feel let down by it.
The fact that he’s been in contention for that job only speaks volumes as to how well he’s done at Elland Road and he’s getting the recognition for it.
