Chelsea now look to appoint Norwich director Stuart Webber despite talks with Leeds United chief Victor Orta

Chelsea are reportedly looking to appoint Norwich’s Stuart Webber as their sporting director despite talks with Leeds United chief Victor Orta.

According to the Sun on 12 October, the Welshman is likely to accept the job should the Blues launch a formal approach as they look to fasten this process.

Apart from Orta, the Champions League outfit have already spoken to Paul Mitchell, Monchi, Tim Steidten, Michael Edwards, Lee Congerton and Luis Campos.

Set to stay?

Their new owner Todd Boehly appears to be playing a very hands-on role in the appointment and has interviewed a number of candidates.

We’re unsure as to what calibre of person he wants as he’s eyeing candidates from different clubs and countries that do not necessarily play the same role.

Regardless, if there was any progress on the Orta front, we would have known, but the fact that the likes of Edwards and now Webber are being put forward, there’s a good chance that the Leeds director of football is set to stay at Elland Road.

He has done a good job at the club so far and shares a stellar understanding with Angus Kinnear and Andrea Radrizzani and also appears to be getting on well with Jesse Marsch.

Hopefully, he does end up staying as he understands the club ethos but in case he decides to leave, nobody at Elland Road would hold that against him as he’s done well to be in contention to take up the job at a Champions League club.

In other Leeds United news, a Sky Sports pundit has delivered Jesse Marsch’s “sack” verdict after what he heard this month.
