Chelsea undecided on Tyler Adams release clause as transfer talks opened for Leeds United midfielder – Sky Sports

Chelsea are yet to make a decision over Tyler Adam’s release clause after entering transfer discussions over the Leeds United midfielder, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster reported on their website Monday (7 August) that the Blues were now “in talks” for the 24-year-old, who is believed to have a relegation release clause of £20million in his contract, as they look to sign two midfielders this summer, but are still “deciding whether to pay the amount or discuss a structured deal”.

According to Sky Sports Brighton’s Moises Caicedo still remains Chelsea’s “primary target” and they are “expected” to make another offer for the Ecuadorian.

But Adams appears set to be their second after The Athletic’s Phil Hay claimed it was “increasingly likely” the sign him, via Twitter earlier on Monday.

On his way?

After attracting interest from various Premier League sides this summer it looks like an Adams exit has now become very real late on with Chelsea honing in.

It was always possible that the closer the start of the season and then deadline day became the more action there would be towards plucking key men from Daniel Farke’s side still.

Max Wober’s sudden disappearance to Borussia Monchengladbach on yet another loan was a significant blow, and now Adams appears to be on the way despite being some weeks from full fitness.

If Chelsea haven’t yet decided whether to pay the release clause there remains a very small possibility that they want to avoid doing so and the Whites could hold firm.

But since the Londoners’ usual practice under the new American ownership is to offer a higher price to secure a deal on more preferable payments terms it is quite possible that the Whites would accept anyway.

The exact structure of such an agreement might effect how much it would free Farke, Gretar Steinsson and Nick Hammond up to complete some incoming deals now, so it would have to suit Leeds United interests.

But it certainly seems like the ball is now in Chelsea’s court and if they really want him they can cut the Whites out of the equation.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have tabled a bid to make a fourth summer signing and the player has accepted the offer.
