Charlie Cresswell set for new Leeds contract

Leeds United are set to offer Charlie Cresswell a new contract in the imminent future at Elland Road.

Ross Heppenstall of the People shared the news over the weekend, as EFL clubs look to take the defender on loan.

The Whites are set to reject those offers, with Marcelo Bielsa keen to keep the academy talent in West Yorkshire.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Heppenstall shared the major update on our defensive sensation.

“Leeds have knocked back an offer from Sunderland to take Under-23s captain Charlie Cresswell on loan,” he wrote.

“Also plenty of Championship interest. Leeds want the defender to continue developing at Elland Road and are set to offer him a new deal too

“The England youth player is contracted for two more seasons but Leeds set to reward his progress with an improved long-term deal.”

Deserved.

Cresswell has been sensational for the under-23s in recent years.

After captaining them to the Premier League 2 Divison 2 title, he will be looking to break into the first-team set-up and his goal against Fleetwood on Friday was a big statement.

Unfortunately, he will miss the chance to feature against either Ajax or Villareal due to picking up a concussion in that previous game.

The young enforcer is set for a contract despite having two more years on his existing deal, that’s how highly-rated he is at Thorp Arch.

It is fully deserved, and we are fully confident that after these next two years, he could take the spot of someone such as Liam Cooper in the first-team squad.

That would see him follow in his father’s footsteps at Elland Road, featuring for the first-team just as Richard Cresswell did.

Here’s to the next two and more years.
