Charlie Cresswell sends two-word message as Leeds United finalise Elland Road exit
Exit-linked Leeds United ace Charlie Cresswell has penned an emotional two-word message to Jack Jenkins after it was confirmed the midfielder had left Elland Road.
Leeds announced via their official club website (31 January) that the 21-year-old had left West Yorkshire to join National League side Halifax Town.
Despite experiencing great success within the club’s youth ranks at Thorp Arch, Jenkins struggled to break into the first-team picture at Elland Road, making just one senior appearance for the club when he made his debut in January 2021, and spending the first half of this season on loan with Scunthorpe United.
Jenkins made many memories with his boyhood side over the years. He netted the winning goal which saw the Under-23s crowned Premier League 2 champions in the 2020/21 season, and saying goodbye to Leeds wouldn’t have been an easy decision, which was clear in his goodbye message.
Jenkins wrote via his official Instagram (31 January), “I want to thank all the players and staff I have worked with at Leeds United for the past 16 years. I will never forget the amazing experiences I have had and memories I have been able to make with the club I grew up with.”
His comments were full of good luck messages, with Cresswell keeping it short but sweet, simply writing “My brother.”
Cresswell has also been a prominent feature of the club’s Under-21s in the past, and the pair would have undoubtedly grown very close.
Similarly to Jenkins, the central defender has struggled to break into the team, making just four Championship appearances so far this season, and many supporters will be wondering if Jenkins’ exit has inspired Cresswell to do something similar.

He has been widely linked with a move away from the Whites throughout January, with Phil Hay revealing via The Athletic (26 January) that he was keen to quit the club due to a lack of playing time.
While Farke suggested that “He definitely wants to stay,” with the manager opening the door for the 21-year-old to make a return to the first-team fold, it will be interesting to see if Jenkins’ exit has reinforced Cresswell’s reported desire to leave.
In other Leeds United news, Farke has shared a transfer “guarantee” ahead of Thursday’s deadline.
