Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell is attracting interest from Germany and Premier League clubs ahead of the summer window, according to The Mirror.

The 20-year-old sensation enjoyed a thrilling loan spell at Millwall before his eye-socket injury, featuring in 28 Championship games and recording four goals and two assists.

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay reported on 3 March that the talented defender’s immediate future at Elland Road is “uncertain” and it’s safe to assume there will be approaches for the youngster in the summer.

And that certainly seems to be the case with The Mirror newspaper [11 May, page 53] reporting that their talented prospect is now in high demand with clubs from the Premier League and German Bundesliga touting his services.

Sad to see him go

Gary Rowett, Cresswell’s current manager at Millwall recently described the young defender as “outstanding” which is something for Leeds United to consider when they ultimately make their decision this summer.

With the Whites potentially going through a stark rebuild this summer, especially in the centre of defence with the likes of Diego LlorenteLiam Cooper both facing uncertain futures, Cresswell’s value and importance to the Whites board should be soaring through the roof right now.

Certainly, first-team guarantees are what the talented 20-year-old will be searching for when he returns this summer, but considering the profile of squad being built at Elland Road, with vibrant and fresh young players at the forefront of their project, it would be incredibly baffling if they allow Cresswell to depart.

In fact, the Leeds United faithful will be incredibly distraught to see one of their own prized assets be allowed to leave the club as they couldn't offer him first-team assurances. What kind of message does that send out? However, the picture could change should the Whites suffer relegation, and the defender may seek out a higher level as a result.

His all-action style and rapid development in South London simply cannot be ignored at Elland Road, and he may well be ready for the next level in the Premier League next season.
