Charlie Cresswell hints at next move in career as Leeds United loanee bids farewell to Millwall

Charlie Cresswell is on his way back to Leeds United after his loan spell at Millwall ended with disappointment on the final day of the Championship season.

Millwall just had to beat Blackburn on Monday (8 May) to secure a spot in the Championship play-offs but they squandered a 3-1 lead at The Den to lose 4-3 and open the door for Sunderland to take sixth place.

Cresswell, 20, had a mixed spell on loan in south-east London but he believes he’s returning to Leeds a much better player – and person – than the one who left last summer.

“What can I say, the journey has been incredible, I couldn’t [have] wished for a better club to come on loan,” said Cresswell on his Instagram on Tuesday (9 May).

“The staff, the fans and all the players have made my first full season one to remember.

“I came a 19-year-old teenager and going back up north a man.

“Gutted I couldn’t play a part in the run in but that’s football.

“Thank you to everyone.”

What’s next?

It seems as though Cresswell is open to giving it a crack at Elland Road – and we’re all for that.

The England Under-21 international has done well at Millwall but has suffered with being in and out of the side a bit as well as a couple of spells of injury.

He suffered a fractured eye socket while playing in a 0-0 draw with West Brom on 1 April, ending his season prematurely, ruling him out of seven games.

Millwall’s form dipped without the Leeds loanee in their side as they won just seven points out of the available 21 in the games he missed.

It led to them missing out on the play-offs, ultimately.

It’s good to hear that Cresswell enjoyed his time in the capital and we look forward to being able to see what he can offer to Leeds.

We’re more than likely going to be a Championship club next season and Creswell will be more than ready to play for us in that league.

We’d much rather see him in our backline than some of the deadwood we’ve got in the Premier League right now, anyway.
