Charlie Austin: Leeds United star Stuart Dallas has flown under the radar

West Brom striker Charlie Austin has been raving about the job Marcelo Bielsa has done at Leeds United and in particular his ability to improve players.

Leeds confirmed they will be finishing in the top half of the Premier League standings on Tuesday when they beat Southampton 2-0 at St Mary’s.

Bielsa has managed that with a squad of players that is largely made up of players with who he won promotion from the Championship.

There are also a number of players in his squad who were already at Elland Road before he arrived when the Whites were regularly finishing in mid-table in the second-tier.

Austin, who’s been on loan at QPR, has been waxing lyrical about Bielsa and has reserved special praise for Stuart Dallas, who he thinks is under-appreciated by those outside of Leeds.

“Last year, everyone was saying Bielsa had the burnout, obviously in the first season [in the Championship] they fell away,” Austin told talkSPORT, as shown on the broadcaster’s Twitter account.

“Second season, they did it and pushed on. This season, it looks like they’ve grown even more.

“If you look at the squad they’ve got, they’ve added three or four players but most of them have come through the EFL and [Bielsa] has progressed them so much and made them almost a force.

“They’re going to be top-half in their first season, I think the tough bit is obviously going to be the second season to try and replicate what they did the first time.

“For me, they’re great to watch. They’re so exciting, the way they press, the way they go forward and that is brilliant.

“I think a player that goes under the radar, not to Leeds fans but to a lot of people, is Stuart Dallas.

“What he brings to them, he can play in any position that Bielsa asks him and what he does for Leeds is unreal. For his effort and where he’s actually come from, he’s one that’s developed under Bielsa.”

Leeds-born Dallas our player of the season?

Dallas has been sensational for Leeds this season but that’s not news at all to supporters of the West Yorkshire club, who also witnessed the Northern Ireland tear it up in the Championship last term.

In the Premier League this season, Dallas has played in almost every position imaginable, made 37 appearances, scored eight goals and supplied two assists.

He’s been absolutely fantastic and we’re struggling to understand why Austin thinks he has gone under the radar this season.

Anyone who plays Fantasy Premier League will know about Dallas’ exploits while everyone would have seen his brace against Manchester City when Leeds won against the Premier League champions at their home ground.

Dallas has been one of the best players not only at Leeds but in the whole of the Premier League this season.

We’re so lucky to have someone who’s so versatile, so hardworking and so good. Bielsa has brought all of that out of him but he’s certainly not the only one.

In other Leeds United news, talks are underway over this “playmaker” leaving Leeds.
