Charlie Austin blasts Leeds United fans on Twitter after criticism aimed at Jesse Marsch

Charlie Austin has blasted Leeds United fans for complaining about the way Jesse Marsch’s men performed against Crystal Palace on Monday night.

Leeds dropped points in their bid to avoid relegation to the Championship as the game ended goalless at Selhurst Park.

It was a dull draw and easily the least-entertaining of all Leeds’ displays in the Premier League since returning in 2020.

However, QPR striker Austin has told Leeds fans to avoid complaining as he believes Marsch is doing a better job at battling against relegation than Marcelo Bielsa would have.

“Leeds fans moaning about the way they play,” said Austin via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday morning [26 April].

“This manager has come in to try and save you from relegation because, let’s be honest, that’s what was going to happen if no change happened.”

Worth complaining?

Here are some cold, hard facts.

Leeds United are outside of the relegation zone on 34 points.

They’ve got five games left to play and are five points clear of hapless Everton, who still have some tough matches left to play.

Leeds also have some hard games on the horizon while Burnley, who are 17th after their win over Wolves on Sunday, have the easiest run-in out of those in the battle to avoid the drop.

Marsch has led the Whites to a five-game unbeaten run that’s yielded 11 points out of 15 available.

He’s dropped just four points in the last five games, that’s impressive.

Would Bielsa have kept us up if he stayed on board? We’ll never know but Marsch is, ultimately, leading us in the right direction.

We’re winning the games we should be winning and drawing the tougher ones against teams like Southampton and Palace.

Leeds are not expected to get much in their next few games but we’ve seen this side grab some scalps before.

They can do it again.

In other Leeds United news, this player might need to force his way out of Elland Road.
