Charlie Allen trains with Leeds first-team ahead of Manchester United clash

Charlie Allen has been training with the Leeds United first-team ahead of the Premier League clash with Manchester United on Sunday.

The 17-year-old arrived from Linfield in the summer and has switched between the under-18s and under-23s all season.

David Healy was his former coach at the Northern Irish club, and he has consistently handed the attacker praise over the past couple of years.

The Whites’ academy have their own official Twitter account which shares updates on the younger talents in and around the club.

“Great to see 17-year-old Charlie Allen training with the first team ahead of this weekends game against Manchester United,” they wrote.

“Charlie has impressed for both Leeds’ under-18’s and under-23’s since his summer move from Linfield and was recently rewarded with his first Northern Ireland U19 call-up.”

Exciting.

Belfast Live labelled their homegrown talent as a “wonderkid” after he sealed his move to the Whites, and he must have been catching the eye.

Marcelo Bielsa doesn’t just hand the first-team chance to anybody without them impressing, the fact that Joe Gelhardt hasn’t made his senior debut proves that.

This doesn’t mean that Allen will be close to any sort of involvement in the first-team and in the Premier League, but this is certainly a great update.

Our academy has gone from strength to strength in the past five years, and the number of youngsters pushing into the first-team is proof of that, and we can’t wait to see more success stories such as this one.
