Championship manager shares Leeds United promotion verdict after 1-0 win v QPR

Leeds United will be “right up and around” the top end of the league table at the end of the season, according to QPR manager Gareth Ainsworth.

The boss shared the verdict after his side lost 1-0 to the Whites in their Championship clash at Elland Road on Wednesday (4 October).

The West Yorkshire club moved into sixth place in the table with the three points, with QPR currently sitting in 22nd place.

Posting on his personal Twitter account, The Athletic’s Phil Hay wrote: “Ainsworth says Leeds will be ‘right up and around it at the end of the season. A lot of teams will come here and be on the end of big scorelines.’”

Serious contenders?

Daniel Farke will have had plenty of goals in mind when he took on the job at Elland Road, but the manager has had several stumbling blocks in his brief tenure so far.

He has, however, come out relatively unscathed, with his side now into the play-off places with four wins from their 10 matches.

Of course the boss would have wanted a higher tally at this stage, with the Whites also drawing four matches, as well as losing twice.

It is perhaps impossible for Farke’s to keep up with high-flying Leicester City and Ipswich Town, such has been their superb starts to the season, but Leeds should be trying their utmost to keep those two sides within their sights.

The Foxes currently lead the way with 27 points, closely followed by the 25 points of the Tractor Boys, with Leeds now on 16 points.

Automatic promotion was perhaps the plan for the Whites, but supporters will not say no to promotion via the play-offs.

In other Leeds United news, a BBC Sport pundit was wowed by one Whites ace in the first half of the match with QPR, with the player not “fazed by anything.”
