Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou in running to be next Leeds United manager amid Jesse Marsch sack development

Ange Postecoglou is a contender to replace Jesse Marsch at Leeds United with the Celtic manager likely to be “in the frame”, according to Dean Jones.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, the former Eurosport and Bleacher Report journalist claimed that there are likely to be other names in the mix to succeed Marsch at Elland Road but 57-year-old Postecoglou is “probably” one of them.

Marsch may have led Leeds to a win over Liverpool at the weekend but the pressure on the American remains high with the Sunday Mirror reporting via their print edition on 30 October (page 77) that “it is only a matter of time before the board pull the trigger” and sack him.

Several managers have been loosely linked with replacing Marsch in the event of Andrea Radrizzani getting rid of him and the latest is Celtic’s Australian manager Postecoglou.

“If they do have to change manager, it’ll be the names that get linked with all the other jobs at the moment, and Postecoglou, and people like that, will probably be in the frame too,” Jones told GiveMeSport.

No thanks

Postecoglou has done well as the Celtic manager since he arrived in Scotland last year.

He oversaw a huge recruitment drive at Parkhead as he got rid of scores of underperforming players to replace them with fresh youngsters from across the world.

Postecoglou is a Greek-born manager who’s managed in the nation of his birth, Australia and, most famously, in Japan.

If you look at Celtic’s squad, you can see the Greek, Aussie and Japanese influence that’s been imposed by the former Australia national team manager.

If Leeds were to hire him, we might see a similar shift.

However, if we’re going to keep sacking and replacing managers, that isn’t a great idea.

Marsch moulded this side in January, signing three players he’s previously worked with in Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen and Tyler Adams, with two of them being American like himself.

And while Postecoglou has done well in the Scottish Premiership by winning the 2021/22 league title and seeing his side top of the league right now – that’s pretty much it.

In Europe, Celtic have done nothing of note and even in the domestic competitions, Rangers – who are a lot weaker – have outclassed them at times.

We’ll give him a miss.
