CBS journalist reacts to Mateusz Klich Leeds United exit as Phil Hay drops transfer news
Jake Winderman has sent an emotional farewell to Mateusz Klich after Phil Hay dropped news that he is set to leave Leeds for DC United imminently.
The Poland international has agreed terms with the MLS side and is set to leave for the American capital after five years at Elland Road.
Having been given an emotional send-off on the pitch after the 2-2 draw with West Ham on Wednesday (4 January), it was revealed by The Athletic’s Hay that he was set for an exit, which led to Winderman responding with a goodbye message of his own.
“Really going to miss Mateusz Klich at Leeds,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.
“He’s an absolute cult hero and was a crucial part of [Leeds] making it back to the Premier League for the 1st time in 16 years.
“We will always love you, Klichy.”
There is no doubting that Klich is a modern day legend at Leeds United for everything he did at Elland Road in his five years at the club.
He was the most used player in the Marcelo Bielsa era at the club, and under Marsch he played regularly and often, just more often than not he was coming off the bench.
At 32-years-old now he wants to try something new and take his family to a new place where his quality of life can be better and he can play football regularly for the final years of his career.
His presence in the dressing room will be massively missed and in a period of the season where relegation must be avoided again by getting results, it’s not ideal.
But we’ve done right by our legend and the player himself is happy, and he got a magnificent farewell, so it’s now time to move on and wish him all the best in the future.
