Cascarino: I doubt Marcelo Bielsa would consider leaving Leeds United for Tottenham

Tony Cascarino claims Marcelo Bielsa would not consider quitting Leeds United to head to Tottenham after Jose Mourinho was sacked by the London club.

On Monday, Spurs announced Mourinho’s departure and that led to talkSPORT host Jim White mooting a potential move down south for Bielsa.

Former Chelsea and Ireland player Cascarino claims that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is probably a more likely contender for the Spurs job and while he sees Bielsa as an option, he cannot see him quitting Leeds.

“One manager who looks capable of filling that role is Steven Gerrard,” Cascarino said on The Times website. “People say he will be the next Liverpool manager but maybe not, or, if so, perhaps he will do another job before then. What he has done at Rangers is extraordinary: the way he handles himself in interviews and the huge improvement of the team on the pitch. Would he excite the likes of Harry Kane? I would say he would.

“Marcelo Bielsa would be another who could regenerate Tottenham. If he can make average players as good as they are at Leeds United, imagine what he could he do with Kane and Dele Alli. But I doubt he would consider leaving Elland Road.”

Get that contract sorted

One thing that money-grabbing Tottenham might consider about Bielsa is that his contract at Elland Road expires at the end of the season.

While we’re not overly concerned about the Argentine walking away from Elland Road at the end of his deal, it does mean Spurs can make an approach for him without having to pay any compensation.

We had to wait a very long time last summer for Bielsa to sign a new contract with the ex-Marseille manager almost waiting until the very start of this season to put pen to paper.

It was never really in doubt but there weren’t any massive Premier League clubs knocking on the door either.

We’d be naive to think Spurs won’t consider Bielsa. He’s easily one of the best managers in the Premier League and as Cascarino pointed out, he could massively improve someone like Harry Kane or Dele Alli.

Spurs are bound to want him so we just need to see Victor Orta, Angus Kinnear and Andrea Radrizzani sort a new contract out as soon as possible for the Leeds boss.

In other Leeds United news, Jamie Carragher changed his mind about the ESL after hearing from Leeds supporters.
