Carlton Palmer has insisted that Marcelo Bielsa is waiting for assurances on transfers before extending his Leeds United contract.
El Loco has famously only signed one-year deals at Elland Road, and is almost through his third year in West Yorkshire; the longest stint of his career at any club.
Palmer believes that Bielsa will be demanding progression after reaching the Premier League, and the only way to do that is through new signings.
Speaking to Football Fan Cast, Palmer believes that there is only one reason why El Loco hasn’t yet extended his stay at Elland Road.
“They’ll certainly bring players in if Bielsa stays.
“I think that’s why Bielsa hasn’t signed a new contract yet. I think he wants to get to the end of the season and sit down with the owners and see what money is available for him.
“I think Bielsa’s the type of manager, from what I’ve seen from him in the past, if he can’t see progression, he doesn’t see the point of staying — and that’s why he’s ended up moving so often.”
Take no chances.
Andrea Radrizzani will be in constant contact with Bielsa and his representatives, and will not want to risk his chances of losing one of the best ever.
All of this success in recent years in single-handily down to Bielsa, and he has made it clear in recent months that he would love to stay at Elland Road.
Phil Hay has reported that the Whites will target five fresh faces over the summer, and if they are anything similar to Raphinha, we could be in for a treat next season.
Bielsa will have all of the assurances he needs, and it will only be a matter of time before he signs on the dotted line, we may have to wait for another nine games until the season ends.
