Carlton Palmer: Kalvin Phillips is not a world-class player yet
Fabio Capello has dubbed Leeds United ace Kalvin Phillips the best modern midfielder he has seen on the pitch, but Carlton Palmer does not agree.
The Italian legend told Daily Mail: “At Leeds with Bielsa, Phillips has really grown a lot and today he is the best modern midfielder I have seen on the pitch – but no one should compare him to Pirlo.”
However, Palmer believes the 25-year-old has not done much to earn those praises and some of the accolades that have been showered on him in recent weeks.

The former Whites star told Football FanCast: “I can’t believe… you know, I watch football and I think I’m a very pragmatic person, a realistic person, and I sit there and I listen to some of these commentators and I think, ‘What are you basing your comments on?’
“What are you basing your remarks on? Kalvin Phillips has had a superb European Championship, but we’re talking about a handful of games.
“That doesn’t turn him into a world-class player yet.”
Maybe
We agree that Phillips is not a world-class player yet, but he is without a doubt one in the making.
The Leeds man was in fine form for England at the Euros, missing just 25 minutes of action as the country reached the finals.
He has surely caught the attention of a lot of clubs and football legends across the world, and we believe that he is only going to keep getting better going forward.
Phillips is already a hero in Yorkshire, and we reckon the majority of England feel the same way about him as Leeds fans do.

Having impressed in his debut Premier League and Euros campaigns, the Whites ace will be keen to lead his club to Europe next season and his country to the World Cup.
Phillips has proven that he deserves to be playing European football at club level, and Leeds could have a huge transfer battle on their hands in the coming months.
Palmer wants him to keep putting in five-star performances on a regular basis for both club and country after doing it in a handful of games in recent weeks, and we reckon Phillips has the capability to do that and become a world-class player.
In other Leeds news, Whites are ready bid to sign one of the best goalkeepers in Euro league.
