Carlos Corberan in contention to be next Leeds manager as odds dramatically tumble amid Daniel Farke sack news

Daniel Farke could be replaced by Carlos Corberan at Elland Road.

Relegation is looking like a real possibility for Leeds this season, and their chances of avoiding that will likely hinge on the future of Farke.

On Monday, it was reported that the 49ers are unlikely to sack Farke, though with the international break upon us and a difficult set of fixtures approaching, that stance may change.

After departing Elland Road in 2020, Corberan had stints at West Brom and is currently the manager of Valencia, but a return to the Whites could be on the cards.

Carlos Corberan could be named as next Leeds boss

Farke has won just nine games as a Premier League manager, and that is a showcase of the issues Leeds face if they are to keep in in the dugout.

Leeds fans are growing unsettled, and the longer that goes on, it may force the 49ers into a decision that they wouldn’t have made otherwise.

As for his replacement, Corberan is one of the names in line to take over, five years after a spell at Elland Road as assistant manager.

On Wednesday, the Spaniard was priced at 12/1 to take over from Farke, with those odds slashed to 4/1 just 24 hours later.

Marco Rose and Steven Gerrard are two of the other names in the running for the job should it become available, though the sudden shift in odds for Corberan could indicate something is boiling away behind the scenes.

Carlos Corberan’s record at Valencia won’t inspire Leeds

Corberan was a popular figure at West Brom before ditching the Baggies on Christmas Eve last year to join Valencia.

Valencia sit 17th in La Liga after 12 games, with Corberan having led his side to just two wins in that period amid growing unrest among their fanbase.

Their 6-0 defeat to Barcelona back in September was the first warning sign, with a recent 4-0 defeat to Real Madrid piling even more pressure on him.

Corberan has faced boos and jeers from the stands throughout the campaign, and even acknowledged the pain that Valencia fans are feeling as a result of their underwhelming season.

It’s a very similar atmosphere at Elland Road, though his past experiences in English football, and in particular at Elland Road, could suit the Spaniard much better.
