Daniel Farke ‘apoplectic’ after what happened in Leeds United win v Cardiff City

Perry Groves has shared why Leeds United manager Daniel Farke was left “absolutely apoplectic” during the 3-0 win against Cardiff City on Saturday 13 January.

Patrick Bamford opened the scoring for Leeds in the Championship clash, only to miss a big chance soon after.

That was one of several opportunities the Whites wasted before Daniel James deservedly doubled their tally at the Cardiff City Stadium, with Georginio Rutter getting the third.

On the Bamford miss, talkSPORT commentator Groves said [13 January, 3:27pm]: “Bamford has to score when one-on-one with [Jack] Alnwick.

“Alnwick comes out and makes himself nice and big. That’s the second brilliant chance Leeds have had from one-v-ones.

“Daniel Farke is prowling around like a caged lion. He is absolutely apoplectic. He knows his side cannot miss these chances.”

Understandable

Bamford’s breakthrough goal kept his positive run of form in 2024 going as he scored for a third game running.

The 30-year-old really should have buried the next chance that fell his way, but he could not beat Cardiff keeper Alnwick when through on goal.

That was more like the Bamford of 2023 when he could not catch a break when given a chance, but thankfully those days are now behind him.

Had James not given Leeds some breathing space before half-time, you would not have wanted to be in Farke’s vicinity at the interval.

But full credit to United because they did not let the miss faze them and they just stuck at the task to stun the hosts.

Farke’s anger was understandable, given Leeds have lost games they have previously dominated this season, but there was no risk of that here.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites’ transfer stance on a first-team regular may reportedly change.
