‘Bye bye takeover’ – These Leeds fans react to update on QSI chairman from Guardian journalist
QSI chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi has been charged with criminal offences in Switzerland and fans are fearful it could have an impact on a future takeover of Leeds United.
Andrea Radrizzani and QSI have been in talks over a potential takeover of the club, with the Leeds owner saying investment from the group could propel the club into the same bracket as Man City.
Guardian journalist David Conn has reported today that Al-Khelaifi has been charged wth giving ‘undue advantages’ to former FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke.
Valcke has in turn been charged with ‘aggravated criminal mismanagement and accepting bribes’.
Al-Khelaifi is also the chairman of the beIN Media Group and president of Paris Saint-Germain.
Leeds fans have been getting excited about a possible QSI takeover for a while now, with some hoping that the group would invest in the club in January.
However, profit and sustainability rules meant that Leeds wouldn’t have been able to invest in players this winter without breaching the limits.
What’s more, if Leeds get promoted to the Premier League this season, the value of the club would increase exponentially.
That makes the summer, if Leeds get into the top flight, the most likely time for external investment.
Some Leeds fans think that could have been scuppered – at least from QSI – after this news.
However, there’s no reason to suggest that would be the case at all from this, even if Al-Khelaifi was found guilty.
Other fans jokingly said that Al-Khelaifi would fit right in at the club.
Here are the reactions from fearful Leeds fans…
