Burnley want Cody Drameh from Leeds United on top of club-record £19m transfer of James Trafford from Manchester City

Burnley are showing no signs of curbing their spending this summer and after agreement a £19million deal to sign James Trafford are still targeting a move for Cody Drameh from Leeds United, The Athletic reports.

No faster has the Whites themselves been linked to the Manchester City goalkeeper on Monday (3 July) the promoted Clarets reached agreement with the treble-winners to sign him.

The £15m guaranteed fee is set to match the club-record at Turf Moor, while the add-ons will send it out on its own as the highest paid by Burnley.

Leeds United

Vincent Kompany’s club were one of the frontrunners in the race to sign right-back Drameh from Elland Road [Fabrizio Romano, 3 June] along with Luton Town, with whom he secured promotion to the Premier League last season on loan.

The Clarets have already splashed out over £20m on targets [The Athletic, 4 July], are also closing in on Dortmund’s Soumaila Coulibaly for around €15m [£12.8m] according to Romano on Monday, and are reportedly not done spending.

Andy Jones reports in The Athletic on Tuesday (4 July) that Drameh is still a target and is one of two right-back options that remain on the cards, along with Anderlecht’s Noah Sadiki.

Moneybags

With Leeds United being relegated it seems like Drameh’s opportunity has to come now at Elland Road if it is ever going to, after being overlooked in the Premier League for the past two seasons.

He has won club awards on loan at Cardiff and promotion with Luton in consecutive campaigns in the second tier, while his Whites competition has floundered in the top flight.

With Rasmus Kristensen on the brink of a loan move to Roma it leaves just Luke Ayling as another option, so if Drameh can be convinced to give the club a final shot he could be a regular starter next term.

Leeds United

But it looks like Burnley aren’t content with wiping out the chances of Leeds finding their goalkeeper of the future, by dropping big money on Trafford, 20, but may still launch an assault on Elland Road for Drameh.

Ironically, the Whites youngster, 21, may now be ready to make the step up to the top flight after 38 appearances in the second tier elsewhere just as his parent club have been relegated.

Therefore if he wants to play in the Premier League going forward the likes of Burnley and Luton are that much more of an attractive proposition, and if Kompany makes a big push for Drameh it might prove tricky for new boss Daniel Farke to change the defender’s mind.

In other Leeds United news, Farke has spoken out about the Whites transfer window in one of his first interviews as the new manager.
