BT Sport pundit reacts to Leeds United transfer news

Tony Dorigo believes that Leeds United are currently paying the price for the gamble they took while putting relegation clauses in contracts.

The Whites have seen five players utilise that option and leave on loan this summer with Max Wober likely to be the sixth one.

The Athletic’s Phil Hay revealed on the Square Ball earlier this week that Wober appeared to be staying at Elland Road, but is now on the cusp of moving to Borussia Monchengladbach.

Dorigo, a BT Sport pundit, told the Yorkshire Evening Post, “Clearly, it’s not ideal. And again, I’m certainly not privy to what’s in players’ contracts but there’s no doubt that the club will do the best with what they can.

“Clearly those contracts allow for this sort of thing and it is frustrating. I’m sure not ideal, but I suppose the gamble was clearly made when you’re trying to attract these players, that you’re thinking relegation isn’t going to be an option, but unfortunately, the worst has happened and we’re kind of paying for it.

“We’re going to have to take some short term pain it seems, no doubt.”

Weird negotiations

Leeds’ relegation rivals were also signing players of a similar calibre and none of them had to put in these ridiculous contracts.

It’s baffling that Victor Orta even signed such players in the first place as the likes of Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen and even Diego Llorente weren’t really strengthening the playing eleven either.

The club should have signed players that were willing to fight regardless of the circumstances and not jump ship at the first chance they get.

The Wober one is so disappointing as he made a u-turn on his previous decision to stay put at Elland Road.

This certainly will not have impressed Daniel Farke as most of the other players communicated their stance long before.

Hopefully, the Whites can battle this with some new signings as they desperately need players walking through the door sooner rather than later.

In other Leeds United news, an update has emerged on the club’s pursuit to sign two centre-backs this summer with a winger now on the radar as well.
