Sam Greenwood wows away from Leeds United in glowing new praise
Leeds United loanee Sam Greenwood has been branded “brilliant” by his Preston teammate Will Keane after impressing with six-goal contributions this season.
Greenwood arrived at Elland Road with high hopes but a limited amount of game time ultimately saw multiple loans ensue.
A spell at Middlesbrough last term was successful but his performances at Preston have been on another level with Keane praising his intelligence in an interview with Lancashire Evening Post (4 December).
Speaking on the impact of Greenwood, Keane admitted: “He’s a brilliant player and like you say, very intelligent. You see the technical ability he has got. But then, also, the other side of it I think he offers a lot without the ball.
“He’s always working hard for the team and putting his body in. He clearly has that understanding in and out of possession, and the manager clearly trusts him. His performances have been great of late and obviously, we need him to keep it going.”
Where does the future lie for Sam Greenwood at Leeds United?
Greenwood’s continued impressive performances on loan at Preston have certainly done his chances of a career at the Whites no harm but with several attacking options ahead of him, that future remains unlikely.
Daniel Farke has several talented attacking players at his disposal with the likes of Willy Gnonto, Largie Ramzani and Dan James among others and Greenwood would remain behind them all.
Perhaps the one area the Whites are lacking in up top is a natural goalscorer, a clinical finisher. Greenwood simply isn’t that. He’s a player capable of contributing from several different positions without being the main man.
That role makes it highly unlikely to see him break into the first team anytime soon and if his form continues, Leeds may opt to cash in on him while his stock is high and undoubtedly there would be plenty of potential suitors.

If Leeds opted to sell the 22-year-old off the back of his Preston loan, they would likely profit from that deal, something that is welcome in the modern PSR world.
Time will tell what happens, but for now, it looks unlikely he will be seen again at Elland Road.
