Brentford want to sign Cody Drameh from Leeds United, Elland Road exit on cards

Brentford are interested in signing Leeds United right-back Cody Drameh during the summer transfer window, according to Lancs Live.

It’s believed Drameh is unlikely to pen a new deal at Elland Road with his current contract now entering its final year (Lancs Live, 8 June).

The 21-year-old has been attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs, with Burnley also making several enquiries.

Drameh is eager to be the first choice next season and is understood to be of interest to Brentford and his former employers Luton Town.

Consequences

Leeds underusing Drameh in the past is going to come back to haunt them. He would be a superb player to have in the Championship. However, due to his contract situation, there’s a strong chance the board cash in during the summer window. If he’s not going to sign a new deal, Leeds cannot risk losing him for free.

Luton would feel like the most obvious destination for the 21-year-old. He enjoyed a wonderful loan spell at Kenilworth Road during the second half of the campaign. With the Hatters now in the Premier League, they could have the financial muscle to piece together a permanent move.

Leeds United

It’s hard to blame Drameh for wanting to move on – he simply hasn’t been given the chance to shine at Elland Road. Had Leeds given him more opportunities over the course of the 2022/23 season, he could well be the first choice right now.

What makes this situation even more frustrating is that Rasmus Kristensen and Luke Aying are hardly high-quality options to have ahead of Drameh. Leeds’ poor recruitment and decision making is going to come back to haunt them.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay claims that a Whites senior player is now set to leave the club at a discounted fee post-relegation and will not be signing a new contract.
