‘Brenden Aaronson turned Leeds United into Real Madrid’ in wild draw vs Liverpool
Daniel Farke has finally found several plans that work at Leeds United.
Leeds drew 3-3 against Liverpool on Saturday to top off a brilliant week, which included the 3-1 win over Chelsea at Elland Road.
Chelsea were bullied by a five-at-the-back formation, but when it wasn’t working against Liverpool, Farke reverted to his usual 4-3-3 to rescue a wild point.
Brenden Aaronson has suffered as a consequence of the tactical shift, but he came off the bench against the Reds to great effect on 6 December.

Brenden Aaronson magic off the bench
Gary Neville made sure to pick out Aaronson after the game, with the American involved in some neat football in the final third, assisting Anton Stach for the second.
Speaking via Sky Sports on YouTube, the ex-Manchester United defender was stunned by Leeds, mentioning both Aaronson and Willy Gnonto off the bench.
“I said after the second goal that they turned into Real Madrid with those white shirts on,” Neville said.
“Because some of the football between Aaronson and Gnonto was really good, and then obviously, Stach scores that goal off the back of it.
“So, some really good football and taking the ball, so very different.”
How did Aaronson perform vs Liverpool?
Leeds fans have been called out for their treatment of Aaronson, but he has bounced back.
The American may be best as an impact substitute, using his tenacity and great fitness in the final third to take advantage of tired defenders in games.
With 14 appearances and nine starts, Aaronson now has one goal and two assists, but is still underperforming his expected goal involvements.
The 25-year-old completed over 70 per cent of his passes after coming on against Liverpool, with one dragged shot and only one failed touch out of 18.
It was a good cameo, and only proves that Farke has found his perfect system with the right players on the bench to come on and make a real difference, no matter who they are playing.
