Brenden Aaronson has spoken out about his future after Union Berlin confirmed he would return to Leeds United after his loan spell ended.

The midfielder moved to Germany on loan after the Whites were relegated to the Championship but he has had an up-and-down season.

As a result, the Bundesliga club haven't made the deal permanent and the American international will return to Elland Road this summer.

Speaking to Pro Soccer Wire (31 May), Aaronson didn't want to discuss his future at Leeds while preparing for his nation's clash with Colombia (8 June).

He said: "I’m just kind of focused on the national team and having my full responsibility here. I’m not thinking about anything else, and that’s where my headspace is.

"I really enjoyed the end part of the season with Union, even though it was a bit of a relegation battle towards the end, but I got to play the last 10 games, that was really great for my development and for me."

Brenden Aaronson set for Leeds United return

Whether he comes back to Elland Road and leaves straight away or not, he will have to come back to some form of training with the club.

Like many Leeds stars, relegation from the Premier League saw them depart in favour of top-division football elsewhere.

Now that promotion has been missed out on, these players will be returning and some will be sold to ease any financial concerns.

Aaronson is someone who could end up staying with the Whites and playing his part in the Championship next season.

Given that the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Crysencio Summerville could depart, there will be a gap for some attacking creativity.

A season in the second division did the world of good for Summerville and may prove to have the same effect on Aaronson.

This all relies on whether he sees his future at Elland Road or away on loan or permanently in the summer.
