Brenden Aaronson slammed after what he did in Blackburn v Leeds United

Beren Cross has slammed Brenden Aaronson after the performance he put in for Leeds United against Blackburn Rovers in the Championship on Saturday.

The Whites lost the game against John Eustace’s men at Ewood Park 1-0, which resulted in the club dropping to second in the table.

Writing for the LeedsLive Website (1 December), Cross shared his thoughts on the United States international’s performance.

“However, on a day when nobody in yellow played well, Aaronson turned in a third straight display that prompted more questions than answers,” he wrote.

“It wasn’t a day where the wingers looked so impressive that Farke needed to shoehorn one into Aaronson’s berth, but it did shine another harsh light on his limited impact of late.

“Work rate, pressing and winning the ball back should be a bare minimum for every Leeds player. It’s the quality he has in attack which should be making a difference and Aaronson did nothing to hurt the hosts.

“In the moments he did have the ball, he either took the wrong option or executed the right option poorly.

“When it is evidently not a good day for the team and the opponent is defending stoically, any side’s number 10 needs to flick that switch or find that moment of quality to open the match up.”

Brenden Aaronson needs to step up his game for Leeds United

Although Aaronson started the season on something of a redemption arc with the attacking midfielder often finding his name as one of the first on the teamsheet, in recent weeks, that couldn’t have been further from the truth.

While Daniel Farke still may believe the American has a lot to offer the team, it feels like a lot more could come from him.

In the summer, Leeds were scouring the market for a new number 10 in order to try and create some competition for the starting role within their team and even though a bid was made for Gustavo Hamer, a move never came to fruition.

The Whites have been in good form since the start of the term but if they continue putting performances in like the one they did at Ewood Park, their attempts to win the title are going to get increasingly more difficult.

Of course, one game can’t define the season of a player but unless Aaronson turns things around soon, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Farke look at bringing in another attacking midfielder in January.
