Brenden Aaronson makes new Leeds United exit admission
Brenden Aaronson admits he had options to leave Leeds United this summer but wanted to have another crack at Elland Road.
The United States international spent last season on loan in the Bundesliga with Union Berlin following the Whites’ relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2022/23 season.
It was confirmed earlier in the window that Aaronson, 23, would be sticking around to be a part of Daniel Farke’s squad this season but he confirmed there were possibilities to move on.
Speaking to LeedsLive (25 July), the attacking midfielder said: “I want to be a part of this club. I had options, of course, but from six or seven months in, I wanted to come back and play for this club and be a part of the team.”
Brenden Aaronson is ready to have another go at Leeds United
Aaronson is gearing up for another stint with Leeds, and it’s a comeback story to watch. After the Whites’ relegation, Aaronson’s move to Union Berlin did not sit particularly well with supporters as several players took advantage to exercise options in their contract.
From Aaronson’s point of view it probably did make sense given the Champions League was calling and Leeds were in a position of transition. At the time, Leeds did not have a coach or sporting director appointed, so Aaronson took the opportunity to – albeit briefly as it transpired – jump ship.
Since joining up with Leeds again he has been making all the right noises but, frankly, the only actions Whites fans care about are those on the pitch and he will need to work hard to win the Elland Road faithful back over.

Conversations with Farke were crucial in Aaronson’s decision to return. Even before these talks, he found himself watching Leeds games, feeling the pull back to Elland Road [LeedsLive, July 25].
And, his time in Berlin wasn’t just about escape; it was also about growth. He worked on his strength and decision-making, and now he’s ready to bring that improved game back to Yorkshire.
