Brenden Aaronson makes honest admission about Leeds United fans on American television
Brenden Aaronson has said the fact that Leeds United fans have been “pushing him” this season has helped him feel more welcome at Elland Road since his return.
The US International returned to West Yorkshire in the summer after spending a year on loan in the Bundesliga with Union Berlin and, while he was initially met with some stick from fans, things have gotten a lot better recently.
Speaking to Golazo America (2 November), Aaronson shared what the fans’ recent support has meant to him.
“It was tough at first [returning to Leeds]. I understand the feelings they had coming back. It was tough, things happen, and that’s football at the end of the day,” he said.
“But they’ve gotten on my shoulders and they been pushing me, and I can’t thank them enough for that because it’s been really good me coming back. I’ve been pushing and putting a lot of work and I think they see that.”
Brenden Aaronson has become one of the most important Leeds United players this season
Aaronson’s redemption arc this season has been one of the best stories to come out of Elland Road.
The American had a tough time when he initially returned to Daniel Farke’s team but now it feels as if he could be key to the Whites gaining promotion to the Premier League this season.
He’s Leeds’ only natural number 10 at the moment and although things were put in place to try and sign Gustavo Hamer in the summer, it feels like the former RB Salzburg man has now cemented his spot in Farke’s starting XI.
The attacking midfielder has played 13 games across all competitions thus far and has managed to chip in with four goal contributions in those games.
Without Aaronson as their playmaker, it feels like the West Yorkshire outfit would be far worse off than what they are now and it also feels like they wouldn’t likely be competing for the top spots in the Championship.
In other Leeds news, Daniel Farke may have stumbled onto a solution to a problem at the Whites with the signing of Josuha Guilavogui.
