Brenden Aaronson hints at Leeds United transfer exit with ‘wasn’t good enough’ message

Brenden Aaronson has hinted towards a Leeds United exit with a thank you message to supporters.

The American international only joined the Whites from Red Bull Salzburg last summer.

But he failed to make an impact at Elland Road this season as Leeds were relegated to the Championship.

“The season wasn’t good enough,” Aaronson posted on Instagram. “We all strived for more and wish we did better.

“Despite these disappointments, I’m extremely grateful that Leeds brought me to be part of such a great club with great teammates and an amazing fan base.

“I want to thank everyone involved with this year, including all the fans who came out to every game, start to finish, and supported us all the way. We appreciate it more than you know. MOT.”

Summer exit likely

There will be a massive shake-up at Leeds this summer, with people on and off the pitch going to be impacted by a much-needed clearout.

The Whites were well below par in various areas this season, with their relegation confirmed on the final day of the campaign in a 4-1 hammering against Tottenham.

The fans at Elland Road were let down that day, but they have been let down all season, with the players simply not putting up a fight.

Aaronson is no exception, with the attacker really having an underwhelming debut campaign in England.

A summer exit for the 22-year-old seems likely, with Aaronson set to be one of many Whites players who will leave in order to avoid playing Championship football next season.

His fellow USA international Weston McKennie has already returned to parent club Juventus after his unsuccessful loan spell at Elland Road, with a move away from West Yorkshire also on the cards for Tyler Adams.
