Bradley Johnson amazed with opening events in Leeds United v Swansea City

The opening five minutes of Leeds United vs Swansea City was a sight to behold as Joel Piroe scored against his former club to cancel out Jamie Paterson’s goal in the first minute.

The Whites thought they had opened the scoring when Dan James powered a header into the back of the net, only for the offside flag to disappoint the Welshman.

Matters got worse when Paterson raced onto a ball over the top and dinked over Illan Meslier moments later before Piroe equalised in the fourth minute.

“Great start,” Bradley Johnson said live on BBC Radio Leeds. “This is relentless, the first five minutes of this game have been electric.

“It’s like a basketball match, it’s end to end. I’m sure at some point it will settle down and Leeds will try and control the ball like Daniel Farke will want them to.”

A mixed first-half performance

It was tough to tell in the first half which of the two sides was pressing for the play-off spots, and who was just five spots above the relegation zone.

Although many would have expected Farke’s men to settle down and dictate play after a frantic opening few minutes, Swansea continued to grow into the game and held the majority of possession.

Crysencio Summerville was Leeds’ biggest attacking threat throughout the first 45 minutes, causing chaos for Josh Key and Ben Cabango, and nearly taking the lead just before the half-time break.

Farke will be disappointed with the lack of control his players possessed in the first half, especially with Ethan Ampadu and Glen Kamara in midfield.

However, Leeds were able to undo all of Swansea’s good work and frustration tactics moments before half-time. A hopeful ball over the top by Ampadu was touched down brilliantly by Georginio Rutter and smashed past Carl Rushworth.

Clearly, the most interesting parts of the game came minutes into the game and seconds before the half-time whistle.
