Bournemouth make loan decision on David Brooks as Leeds United transfer news emerges for January

Bournemouth could allow David Brooks to leave the club on loan as Leeds United enter a transfer battle with Southampton, according to talkSPORT.

The radio station reported via their website on 29 December that both the club and the player are interested in building more minutes on the pitch, with Brooks aiming to help Wales reach EURO 2024 through the play-offs.

It is understood that Leeds’ recent transfer history with the Cherries could give them the edge over Southampton, having traded Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra for Jaidon Anthony in the summer.

The Whites were keeping tabs on the 26-year-old once before, with Marcelo Bielsa reportedly a fan of the player and thought he would fit effortlessly into Leeds’ style of play in 2020, as per Wales Online.

Tough road back

For Wales fans, Brooks’ journey back to football has been an extremely emotional one. The winger returned to the sport earlier this year having been given the all-clear from his Hodgkin Lymphoma diagnosis.

But it has taken a while for the Welshman to get back into the swing of things, making just 11 league appearances this season with only two of them as starts.

He scored goals in two games running near the beginning of the campaign, netting against Swansea City in the EFL Cup and then again in a 2-2 draw with Brentford. But it was a long wait until his next goal contribution, assisting a third goal against Fulham on Tuesday.

With Marcus Tavernier and Antoine Semenyo flying down the wings, Brooks is far down the pecking order and may need a loan move away to get him back to where he was before the cancer diagnosis in October 2021.

His slick style of play, bag of tricks and quick turn of pace could slot perfectly into the Leeds attack this season, providing much-needed backup to Crysencio Summerville and international teammate Dan James.

In other Leeds United news, Farke has axed one player from the squad altogether despite him being available.
