‘Both will be announced…’ – Angus Kinnear drops big hint about 2 huge new deals at Leeds

Leeds United chief Angus Kinnear has dropped a big hint over two huge new deals at the club saying both will be announced “in the near future”.

It had been reported that Patrick Bamford had signed a one-year extension in secret [David Ornstein]. That’s not been officially confirmed yet.

There’s also been plenty of speculation about Marcelo Bielsa staying on when his contract runs out at the end of the season.

Kinnear was put on the spot over both of these on the latest episode of the Phil Hay podcast.

“Patrick is in a good place, we want him for a long time and we’re very confident, and with Marcelo as well.

“We’re working towards the future and the contractual elements aren’t key to this.”

Kinnear was asked specifically if Bamford had signed a one-year extension.

“I was suitably vague,” said Kinnear. “I thought I handled it well. Both of their positions will be announced in the near future.”

Two critical deals

Ornstein is a very reliable source and the documents he found on Companies House certainly suggest that Bamford has signed a one-year extension.

However, Kinnear is talking about the long-term and it sounds like a proper new contract could be on the cards with an announcement coming soon.

That’s huge for Leeds.

A new deal for Marcelo Bielsa is even bigger. Kinnear has said that contractual elements aren’t key to the future relationship and that makes us 100% convinced that Bielsa is indeed signing on for another season.

We would have been surprised if he didn’t.

With Bielsa and Bamford signed up, we can then focus on bringing in more players and making the squad even stronger.
