Borussia Monchengladbach chief issues update on Leeds United defender Max Wober

Borussia Monchengladbach managing director Roland Virkus confirms talks with Leeds United defender Max Wober over a move this summer.

The Austria international was left out of a pre-season friendly with Daniel Farke citing transfer reasons and he now appears to be closing in on an exit.

The 25-year-old made a u-turn on his decision to stay at Elland Road, according to Phil Hay, who claimed that the plans were for him to play in the Championship next season.

Virkus told Kicker, “We are in good talks. It is also clear that we are pushing the issue.

“We believe that the experience he brings is good for the squad. He’s also left-footed, which we haven’t had in central defence for a long time.”

Big blow

Farke surely would’ve been planning for life at Elland Road with Wober being among the first names on his team sheet.

Having a centre-back position locked in by arguably the best player in that role in the Championship would’ve been something.

However, he decided to quit and will follow Ramus Kristensen, Diego Llorente, Robin Koch, Brenden Aaronson, Rodrigo, Marc Roca and Tyler Roberts through the exit door.

Most of them have left on loan, but there is a feeling that they’re unlikely to play again at Elland Road even if Leeds get promoted.

The same can be said, unfortunately, about Wober, as he seems to have burned all bridges with his decision to abandon ship.

Hopefully, the Whites now accelerate their pursuit to sign a centre-back this summer, possibly before the new season begins.

In other Leeds United news, an update has emerged on the club’s pursuit to sign two centre-backs this summer with a winger now on the radar as well.
