Tony Dorigo rages at ‘petulant’ incident in Leeds United win v Blackburn

Tony Dorigo has hit out at a “petulant” incident he spotted in the Championship clash between Leeds United and Blackburn Rovers.

A member of Blackburn’s backroom staff delayed passing the ball to a Leeds player after it had gone out of play for a throw-in during the opening 45 minutes.

Covering the game as a co-commentator for LUTV [9 December, 12:39], former Leeds defender Dorigo hit out at the incident as the Whites left with a 2-0 win.

“It’s really silly, petulant,” he said. “It’s a member of staff on the Blackburn side who goes to throw it then stops, then doesn’t, then does.

“Just give the ball back and get on with it. What is wrong with you?”

Small margins

One of Blackburn’s coaches clearly did not want to give Leeds any sort of advantage and therefore delayed getting the ball back in play.

As “petulant” as the incident was, you cannot really blame the backroom staff member as those in the away dugout would have done the same.

Football is ultimately all about the small advantages you can give yourself, or indeed take away from the opposition, as was the case here.

It did not hold United back, as Daniel James put the Whites ahead not long after to send the packed away end into raptures.

There appeared to be some skirmishes in the stands, so there was clearly no love lost between the two clubs.

In a way, this incident involving the Blackburn coach may just have spurred the Leeds players on that little more.
