Bielsa will be raging at 24/yo – Three things we learned about Leeds in loss v QPR

Okay, where do we start with Saturday’s game?

The bad refereeing? The sending off of Kalvin Phillips? The missed penalty? None of it makes for good reading for Leeds fans, who haven’t won in seven games now.

One word sums it up: Disaster. The three MOT talking points put the meat on the bones.

1. The squad is paper-thin
Leeds’ starting XI was good but when we looked at the subs ahead of the game today it made us feel very uneasy. We know there’s no striker, although surely Ryan Edmondson would be better than having no one if Bamford had to come off? Or couldn’t score. But Oliver Casey, Gjanni Alioski, Pascal Struijk, Alfie McCalmont, Jamie Shackleton and Jordan Stevens don’t make up a bench of champions. There’s talent there but hardly any experience. And where are you going to look for goals? Leeds have a few injuries but this should set the alarm bells ringing.

2. Where do we find the referees?
Fans might complain about VAR but with it the QPR goal wouldn’t have been given. There were two handballs from Nahki Wells in the build-up to his goal. The first when the ball ricocheted off his left arm and then his right, which he used to control the ball. It should have been easy to spot even without VAR. Leeds could have had a penalty early on as well but the ref just waved it away.

3. Kalvin Phillips can be an idiot
The red card for Phillips was clear cut. The 24-year-old midfielder could have had a couple for the challenge today. He’s got that sort of challenge in him, when he gets frustrated and the red mist comes down. He needs to cut them out of his game. He could end up costing Leeds in a huge way. Bielsa has no one to replace him with and he must be raging. It could even force Leeds into the transfer market. If it does they should take the fee out of Phillip’s wages. But beyond Leeds, these sorts of challenges are called leg breakers for a reason. You can’t risk seriously injuring someone because you’re frustrated. Phillips is a great player but he can be a real idiot as well.
