Bielsa to make one change to Leeds XI for clash v Cardiff, senior player to be dropped – report
Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa will make one change to his starting line-up for the side’s first match back when the Championship season restarts, according to LeedsLive.
Bielsa’s men will travel to South Wales on June 20 to play against Cardiff at the Cardiff City – a game that should have taken place three months ago.
Leeds’ season was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic and although it has been such a long time since a ball was last kicked in the Championship, LeedsLive have confidently reported that the one change Bielsa will make to his line-up versus Cardiff is to drop Gaetano Berardi so Kalvin Phillips can return to the midfield.
In the final game before lockdown, Leeds beat Huddersfield 2-0 at Elland Road but they did so without 24-year-old Phillips, who was injured.
Ben White started in the holding midfield role while Phillips sat out and Berardi, 31, was brought into the defence.
LeedsLive suggests that White, 22, will now drop back into the defence with Phillips returning as the defensive midfielder.
The rest of the starting line-up against Huddersfield was pretty standard except Illan Meslier started in goals with Kiko Casilla suspended.
Casilla, 33, will miss the next six games due to his ban for racially abusing Jonathan Leko so won’t be back in Bielsa’s line-up any time soon.
In other Leeds United news, this defender linked with United is no Ben White.
