Marcelo Bielsa has not ruled out handing Kiko Casilla back his place in the Leeds United side when Barnsley travel to Elland Road on Thursday.
Casilla, 33, is available for selection once again after completing his eight-match ban for racially abusing Jonathan Leko back in September.
Illan Meslier has done a fine job in goals while Casilla has been suspended but Bielsa has not made it clear who will be his number one choice ‘keeper for the remaining three games of the Championship season.
“I didn’t define the team yet, so I prefer the players know first and after I can make a statement,” said Bielsa on Tuesday when asked if Casilla will return, as quoted by LeedsLive.
Bielsa is not a fan of changing his team so even though Casilla is available, we think that the form of Meslier – and the team as a whole – will mean that the Frenchman stays between the sticks for the remainder of the campaign.
The only way we can see Casilla coming back into the side is it there is an injury or suspension to Meslier.
It will be interesting to see if Casilla is named on the bench this week, though.
Kamil Miazek has been the back-up goalkeeper since the season resumed last month but you would expect the former Real Madrid shot-stopper to take the place of the ex-Poland youth international on the bench.
If that doesn’t happen then that could be a huge suggestion towards what will happen with Casilla in the summer as with all that has happened with him, it would not be a shock to see Leeds want to wash their hands of the 33-year-old, even though he was publically backed by the club for racially abusing a fellow professional.
